Book Review – Gertrude

“Welcome dear Reader to this Curious Tale, where all of your dreams are about to set sail, into a world that exists on no map, apart from this one sitting here in your lap.”

A tree with a wooden hut at the top of the trunk emerges from a dirty swamp. Gertrude Grunder lives in the shack watching the things afloat in the swamp. Grunder used to swim in the swamp which was once a water body and drive all the creatures away. Not budging from her shack, she contemplates on things whilst blowing a gum. The dirty swamp attracts the attention of a village lad who offers help to clean up the swamp.

The primary colours are green and white, though it doesn’t mean that illustrations were not beautiful. I skimmed through the book, just so i could admire the illustrations. The story is narrated in a verse format that follows a rhyming scheme suitable for children. The key takeaway of this book is to promote the preservation of water bodies and create awareness amongst them.
