Every life is an interesting story, and this story is best written when people go through life’s experiences by staying connected to who they truly are. To stay connected to yourself, you need first to start listening from within.

This book gives a perspective on why we think, feel and act the way we do, through concepts from neuroscience and psychology. It attempts to answer some of life’s key questions, such as-

-Why do we all perceive things differently?

-Why are we designed to do different things?

-Why do we all learn things in different ways?

-How are habits formed?

-What role do emotions play in our lives?

-What makes us happy?

And finally, what it means and takes to stay connected to ourselves and others.

Thoughts

While responding to an external stimuli, the neurons connect with each other via a chemical reaction and form a pathway. When we trying to make sense of something, other people may perceive things differently, precisely the reason for the neuron pathways not to be alike.

It may be hard to assimilate this fact, but according to the surveys conducted on various group of people by emminent psychologists, majority of our happiness stems from our behaviour, then Genetics followed by life’s circumstances.

The way our brain processes emotional and physical pain is same. An example for this is, you develop a splitting headache when you are stressed out and when you are depressed for a considerable period of time, you develop an eating disorder.

It is very important to take a step back in our life to introspect, why we behave the way we do and remain true to our purpose.

Rating and Review:

The experience I derived from this book was enriching. The author has researched to a great extent and put forth his points with the help of real life examples. I loved his approach towards life especially the ‘Centred Life’ theory spread across four aspects namely, health, relationship, financial security, work and activities. He has made the boring text book concepts seem interesting and fascinating. The easy going language will enable you to comprehend these things. I could relate to the majority of concepts related to happiness, perspective, learning and the list goes endless. At the end, all the chapters are coherently stringed together to summarise the book.
