Monsieur Le Chef

The story starts off with an interesting note with the the author insisting the young readers to detect the location of Animaux island in Google maps by giving the coordinates. Tucked in a secluded area unknown to humans, the island of Animaux moves by each passing second.

Aubrey the Turkey considered himself the finest chef in the Animaux island so and so he didn’t bother to clean up. He left the menial chore to his assistants, Clifford, the clever platypus and Walli, the kind Warthog. Aubrey loved spinning stories to entertain an audience, Walli was always on the lookout for lions and Clifford relished jelly snakes.

The stories mainly revolved around Aubrey, the Turkey and his exploits and how would his assistants or in the rarest of rare cases, he himself would save the day. The tales are loosely connected to each other and are narrated in the form of three scenes. Aubrey, the turkey was self-obsessed and cherished having fun at other’s expense. My favourite short story was ‘Audrey the Turkey’ where his sister shows him his right place and the siblings reconcile later and mend their relationship.I loved watching him getting stuck in situations (Quite literally in case of ‘The Black Skullanthemum’)

The slapstick humour and puns before the beginning of a scene was something that I enjoyed. It took me time to get absorbed in the world created by the author. It was fun to see the inhabitants of Animaux island, trying to put the things known to humans to good use.
