Thoughts
Once in our lifetime we encounter someone who sweeps us off our feet. We enjoy their company and do not mind waking up in the morning next to their droopy face for the remainder of our life.
‘Call Me Saaya’ is a sweet love story that will make your heart flutter. Set amidst the sands of Rajasthan, you will definitely feel the presence of butterflies in your stomach.
Plot
Shamsher bumped (literally) into Saaya when he was paying a visit to his native place. They kept on seeing each other quite often oblivious to the fact that they enjoyed each others company until a figment of past upturns their lives. Saaya’s identity haunts her and everything is a blur to her including Shamsher’s love. How do they free themselves of this entangled mess? Read the book to find out.
Review and Rating
The narrative is so engaging and descriptive that at one point of time you will feel as though you are transported to Rajasthan, exploring its sand dunes. Initially, the main protagonists were a symbolic of exuberance bringing out positive vibes. Saaya was portrayed to be vivacious yet reserved in many ways. I developed a dislike for her in the later stages, though I sympathised with her at some levels.Born with a silver spoon, Shamsher was deeply connected with his roots, though he exhibited flamboyance and chivalry occasionally. He seemed to handle things with maturity. I was in awe of him especially for his wit and farsightedness. The loyal and humble man servant, Maan Singh is a clone of Jeeves sans the humour.Rani Sumitra Devi was an embodiment of grace, beauty and kindness. The supporting characters were given ample space and a convincing back story was woven around them.
Not only the cultural extravaganza of Rajasthan but issues like child marriage, domestic violence for which the state is infamous were also interspersed with the central theme. The writing style was eloquent with some misses with regard to editing. At one point, you will be carried away in the whirlpool of emotions.
The story was a bit of a drag in the later parts. The drama could have been toned down a bit. The abrupt tense change was noticeable.
