The picture on the book cover is actually the logo of Linden Academy for the gifted. Can you tell us something on how you came up with the concept of an academy for the gifted and the creation of maps?
Honestly, I get asked this question a lot and it’s hard to answer cause I don’t entirely know to be honest! I have always loved books set in an academy setting, and I have always wanted to write a book myself. This book used to have an entirely different plot, name, and it’s expanded so much since I really put my heart and soul into it this past year. Also, I am a huge Harry Potter fan, so getting to write about a topic I grew up reading just makes me giggle like a schoolgirl. The map of Evvalor was created by me, and with the help of my best friend Kylee. Every region has a meaning behind it, and wasn’t just picked for a random reason. It resonates with some aspect of the territory it’s a part of. For example, the Land of Escuro, which is the territory that houses the Queen of Darkness, translates in Portuguese (Escuro does) to “dark.” So it means, “the Land of Dark.”
