Kevin Missal is a 21 year old graduate from St. Stephen’s College, who has written four novels till now ranging from crime to mythology to horror. He had written his first book at the age of 14, which was released by the Chief Minister of Delhi. His second book was written at the age of 16 and was published by a British indie-press. He is a pioneer in writing the World’s First InstaRead and is a bestseller on Amazon under horror category. He is also the co-owner and co-founder of Kalamos Literary Services, which publishes and promotes fledgling writers to make a mark in the literary industry. He currently lives in Delhi.
I got an opportunity to interview him again for his upcoming novel – Satyayoddha Kalki: Eye of Brahma. Here’s how the conversation flowed –
Q) The Kalki Trilogy is interweaved with many sub-plots. How did you strike a balance between them and ensured that there were no loop holes?
Kevin – I seriously don’t know. It kind of happened organically. I wish I had an answer for this, but it just kind of happened.
Q) Do you follow a strict writing schedule? What is your writing process like?
Kevin – No, it’s quite free flowing. I write when I feel like it.
Q) Your first book received rave reviews and was featured in the best selling charts for weeks. What is the secret ingredient for a book to be a best seller and how do you respond to criticism?
Kevin – Secret ingredient is just to write a good book and be consistent in your marketing. I respond to criticisms positively since they help me grow as a writer.
Q) What can the readers expect from the second book – Satyayoddha Kalki?
Kevin – Lot of character defining twists!
Q) Who are your favorite authors in the mythology genre? Did you take inspiration from any of the Indian authors for your book?
Kevin – I don’t particularly have a favorite writer. I love Ashwin Sanghi a lot. No, I didn’t but I did take inspiration from Game of Thrones.
Q) As an author, are you possessive about your characters? If yes, which one of them is closest to your heart?
Kevin – I guess, it’s Arjan.
Q) If you were bestowed with an opportunity to have an hour chat session with an author, who will it be and why?
Kevin – It’s of course Rick Riordan. Would love to see what goes in his head and how he plots his impeccable twists!
