Blurb

Taara Maheshwari, a single woman in her thirties and a successful lawyer, is tough from outside but a die heart fan of romantic movies from inside. She grew up seeking her “happily ever after’ but amid various heartbreaks andculture of modern age short term relationships, her believe in “true connections” got replaced by the comfort of being “emotionally disconnected.” After she turned 31, her parents persuaded her into meeting a guy for marriage who sounded just perfect for her. Acting on impulse, she told her parents that she would meet him only if they let her go on a trip to Europe. As Taara went on to explore the world, she experienced what actually happens when a single Indian girl travels to Europe all by herself. Is it only about dancing, singing or falling in love? What happens after you fall in love? Does love conquer all? Only her story would tell.

Plot

Like every other girl, the protagonist of the book, Taara  Maheshwari is forced to see prospective grooms. Desperate to get respite from all of these, she requests her parents to allow her to go on a solo trip to Europe. Her joy knew no bounds when her parents agreed. Binge watching DDLJ on loop, Taara  a successful lawyer in her early 30s landed in Europe to chase her ‘happily ever after’. Amid walking with classy people, bumping into strangers, will this tough cookie ever find her ‘forever’ at the landmark of love?

Thoughts

Traveling is much more than having fun, in fact it gives you much needed room for rejuvenation and introspection. Solitude teaches us to love yourself a little more and accept the way you are and sometimes, to let go. That is main motto of ‘Solo Travel’ i.e to be in the company of strangers but with a sense of detachment.

Review and Rating

Table for One’ leaves you with a warm and a mushy feeling but in a good way.
First, I thought the story was a crossover between the Bollywood movie ‘Queen’ and Elizabeth Gilbert’s novel ‘Eat Pray Love’, but I was glad to be proven wrong. The cover radiates the vibes of a travelogue. Taara’s journey is in direct contrast of the melancholic life. The breathtaking picturesque locations are described in great detail that you will feel that you are travelling with Taara. The writing is style is engaging that will keep you hooked to the story. The plot is riveting that you want to turn the pages just to relive the moments. There are so many minor characters who have less screen time, nevertheless they leave an impression on you with their quirky personalities. I loved the Bollywood references. The pages are sprinkled with love, warmth and a tinge of philosophy.
Taara is nursing a broken heart, but the story doesn’t end here, in fact it is the beginning of a new dawn in her life. She shows immense courage in conquering the mighty snow-capped Alps mountain range. She is not an introvert but she finds comfort in the solitude amid strangers. You will relate to her in a way but at some point, you aspire to be like her, wanting to imbibe her quality of far-sightedness and not to mention her goofy behaviour.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great review! I also thought it sounded a bit like Eat, Pray Love when I was reading the blurb, but I really like the sound of it, definitely going to add this to my bookshelf 🙂

Fantastic review! I think I’ll add this to my reading list, it’s a bit outside of what I’d usually read but I am way into living vicariously through the travels of others, so why not? 🙂 I love that cover too!
