Shiv Sanyal is a celebrated artist. When he meets an enigmatic woman, he creates a sculpture of her, his masterpiece. He is shocked when he is publicly humiliated for copying a Khajuraho figurine that looks just like this mysterious woman. He decides to visit Khajuraho to unveil the truth.Stumbling upon revelations and facts long hidden, he discovers his connection to the glorious past of Khajuraho. Unexpected events in Khajuraho and Mumbai force him and his friends to go on a quest to find a hidden treasure with clues in a missing Khajuraho sculpture. They travel across India and visit various ancient temples to find clues leading to the treasure.
What is this treasure? Who is compelling them to seek it? Who is Shiv’s friend and who is his enemy? How has the universe woven the lives of his friends into his life?
I Shall Always Love You is a thrilling tale of love that never dies, treasures that lay buried and truths that go deeper than the seas.
People often see the sensuality in erotic paintings/sculptures but overlook the art and hard work the artist has put to carve an alluring piece of art. I’m glad author has put forth this theory to effective use in the book.
Shiv Sanyal a son of an affluent buisinessman is constantly flanked by Saloni who seems to harbour feeling towards him and his best friend Arjun who goes out of his way to help Shiv’s dad. At one of his art exhibitions, a critic admonishes him publicly for replicating one of the sculptures from Kajuraho.
Blazing with anger, Shiv sets off to Kajuraho to inspect for himself. He is shown around the city by a local Tony. Shiv is enthralled by the cultural extravaganza displayed in the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple. During his slumber, he dreams about events dating back to 11th century, which he later accounts to his past life.
Some unexpected events unfold where Arjun, Saloni and Shiv are trailed by a bunch of goons. Meanwhile Shiv also seeks help from a spiritual counsellor.
Who are these people after Shiv and his friends? What do they want? Are these events linked to Shiv’s past life as he envisioned in his dream? Read the book to find out.
The plot was unique and something unexpected from typical romance novels. The existing facts were simplified for an enriched learning experience. Each aspect of sculpting the Kajuraho figurines were highlighted. The setting of the book creates a visual treat for the senses. The language is lucid, something that will engage an avid reader. The chemistry between the leads will evoke the right emotions. The emotions of trauma and loss were beautifully elucidated in words. The characters were portrayed to be strong and remained true to their purpose, knowing their boundaries well. The author has recreated scenes from Hollywood movie but I was pleased that she had explicitly mentioned that in the book.
The belief on the theory of after life and reminisces of past life might vary from person to person, but you will be entrapped by the fictional world woven by the author. The story was fast paced. I wished some things would have slowed down to cherish the moment or to grasp the situations.
